On school boards and abortion
I am always surprised by the number of people who fail to understand the Constitution. I do not know Ryan Balton, but as far as I am concerned, the Constitution gives him the right to run for any office in the city, state or country, as long as he is of age for that position and eligible to vote, is a U.S. citizen and is not a felon. Since I was one of the former members of the school board when we elected to allow student reps. I see nothing wrong with a student with the above eligibility to run for office. Leave it up to voters to make the decision. Furthermore, it might be helpful for the present school administration to have a “junior school board” with the students running for office much as regular candidates do. They could work with the students and help the administration find out what problems students have and how they can be resolved. Obviously, they would not have an official vote, but their voices might be heard. I am also appalled at the number of people who want to force the rest of the world to live according to their standards. The Constitution gives a woman the right to have an abortion. lt does not say she must. It says she may. The only persons required to make that decision are a woman and her physician. No one can crawl into the mind of the woman in question. And she must live with her decision. I am also thoroughly disgusted by those who use their personal religion to decide what and how the rest of the world must live. Please live according to your tenets, leave the rest of us alone to live with ours, and mind your own business. Janeth DeGraw Milford
