Perception or deception
I see a lot of McCain lawn signs in our neighborhood. So, I wonder, why some of us who work hard for every penny, whose income has shrunk in the past eight years, whose energy costs have more than doubled, who cannot afford to get sick because it costs too much, are drawn to John McCain? Is it the Republican credo of less government? The last eight Republican years have seen the largest expansion in government since LBJ. The Republicans have taken away our constitutional right to privacy. They want their religious views to dictate the way our children are educated. Is it fear of terrorists? When I hear McCain speak, I hear the threat of more wars. I hear anger and retaliation for war crimes of forty years ago. Instead of compassion and understanding, I hear bitterness and vengeance, yet he never mentions Bin Laden. Could it be that McCain relates to regular people? John McCain has voted against raising the minimum wage nineteen times! We are not residents of multi-million dollar developments like McCain, nor do we own so many homes that we have lost count of them. Is it McCain’s “family values?” McCain divorced his first wife after she was injured in an accident that left her badly handicapped, and married a women, an heiress to a beer fortune, seventeen years his junior. Or is it that he is a “maverick?” Well, McCain voted with Bush and along party lines more than 90 percent of the time over the past eight years. Barack Obama promises to work for us by creating a new “Making Work Pay” Tax cut worth $1000 per family, eliminating federal income taxes for all seniors who make less that $50,000 per year, and guarantees no tax hike for those who earn less than $250,000 per year. Obama vows to take responsibility for restoring the country’s infrastructure, financial, education, and health care systems; bringing back jobs to the USA, ending foreign oil dependence and eliminating Al Qaeda and Bin Laden forever. Reward yourself. You deserve it. Vote for a higher standard of living in your own life. Vote for REAL change. Vote Obama/Biden. Carol Ann Sklar Milford
