Quit your belly-aching
Once again, someone without using common sense, has complained about the “cost” of student parking. As one of the members of an earlier board I helped to enact that program. And there were several reasons for that. 1: Driving is a privilege, not a right. 2: The cost of maintaining parking lots is not cheap. 3: The state mandates we have a bus seat for each student in the district, and many times we see empty seats in our buses, not withstanding the fact that we have to maintain the buses whether they are used or not. And yes, I am well aware the “juniors and seniors” are embarrassed to have to sit with younger students. Too bad! So sad! Now consider the cost of driving. How much does the gas and maintenance cost for that vehicle so one student can drive to school? Now compare the cost of one day’s driving to the cost of approximately $1.25 a week for the privilege of parking. That cost is less than a can of beer, less than a good chocolate bar, less than a loaf of bread, less than a liter of soda, less than a gallon of milk. It is also less than one gallon of gas and probably less than the cost of a box of condoms. So quit your bellyaching. If you want to park in school pay the $1.25 and drink a little less, nosh a little less, and use your common sense a whole lot more. Janeth De Graw Milford
