Support the spelling bee

To the Editor: My name is Samantha Mascia, and I am a sophomore at Delaware Valley High School. I am a four-time winner of the Tri-State Spelling Bee, held in March of each year. This is an event open to students in grades 4-8. Seven local schools send five student representatives to the Spelling Bee each year. From there, they compete for the top prize: a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, hosted hi Washington, D.C., during the last week of May. Since I am no longer eligible to compete, I have volunteered to assist in raising funds for this event. During my years of competition, I have come to realize what a great organization this is. Many students enjoy competing, and for some, it becomes a dream come true to compete at the national level. This year, donations for the Tri-State Spelling Bee may be mailed to: Tri-State Spelling Bee, c/o Tom CcCarron, Hudson United Bank, 205 East Main Street, Port Jervis N.Y. 12771. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated. The students and their parents are always grateful for the support they receive from the community, and this is a worthwhile organization, providing some students with an experience they will never forget.
