The real meaning of the library tax vote

The proposal for a Library tax has been defeated, Discussion has now arisen on the meaning of the result. What the result means is that more people voted against the tax than for it. What it does not mean is that: people do not support the library service; people do not want the library properly funded; people are against the creation of new branches in the Blooming Grove area and in Lehman township; people are against the construction of new library headquarters in Milford; people are against the current design of the proposed new building. And it certainly does not mean that they support the Pike County Commissioners’ ludicrous idea of cutting all funding of Pike County’s libraries. It just means that people voted against funding the library from a specific library tax. I’m against a library tax. I believe that our county’s libraries should be properly funded by the Commissioners - something they have failed to do for years - and not by a special tax. So let’s not draw ridiculous conclusions from the vote on a very clear proposal. People might vote against a public option in health care - it doesn’t mean they’re against healing the sick.
