There were reasons
To the editor: In the May 2 edition, letter writer Manuel Schonhorn seemed to eulogize our brave fallen soldiers. Unfortunately he degrades into a liberal rant about our “lies, deceit, ugliness and arrogance” and about “this country’s invasion of Iraq”. We invaded Iraq after many, many U.N. resolutions for Saddam Hussein to disarm and comply with the resolutions that left him in power from the 1991 invasion. This country, and the Bush administration specifically didn’t one day wake up and decide we had nothing better to do than invade Iraq. Our brave men and women, and those of all the country’s who sent their bravest to be part of the “liberation” deserve better. History will remember the torture rooms of and the evil of Saddam’s reign. The justified removal of one of the 20th century’s most barbaric rulers. I suggest Mr. Sconhorn think back to World War II, the loss of our cherished men during that conflict far surpasses the causalities we have been asked to endure today. All for a chance of peace in an area that has eluded every recent American president. This great country is the leader of the free world for a reason sir, with great responsibility, sometimes comes great sacrifice. Wishing away problems as done in recent past has a way of coming back to bite us big time. God bless our great country and all the brave men and women who give their all to keep it that way.
