Ballroom Thieves evoke spirit of gospel music, protest anthems

HAWLEY — The Ballroom Thieves, an indie-blues and roots-rock trio, will perform an acoustic show at the Hawley Silk Mill, 8 Silk Mill Drive, Hawley.
“This band has constructed such a magical world, filled with exquisite harmonies, expert cello playing and an unyielding passion,” says Jill Carletti, managing director of Harmony Presents. "Their songs swell and jerk jauntily, never losing a listener’s attention. With vintage lyrics akin to those of old gospel or protest songs, like 'Bury Me Smiling' — the Ballroom Thieves are stealing from the old and making them new. Their most recent album, 'Deadeye,' takes a somber approach, reflecting on the difficulties of the road, the meaning of ‘home.'"
Showtime is 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 24. Audiences are encouraged to arrive early for preferred seating. Tickets are $20 up until the day of the show. On the day of the show, tickets are $25. This is the second-to-last show Harmony Presents will produce in the Hawley Silk Mill. A future location for concerts and shows is to be announced.
“We’ve felt honored to bring quality music to the Hawley Silk Mill regularly over the past seven years," Carletti said. "We’re happy to close out the series here with a few incredibly strong acts, and look forward to announcing a new location."
