Cardinal hosting the call of the wild

VERNON, N.J. - The Cardinal Art Gallery is presenting an art exhibit devoted entirely to the wolf (canis lupis). More than 35 works of art showing the wolf in its natural environment are featured. Artists represented in this exhibit include Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders, Jorge Mayol, Terry Isaac and John Seerey-Lester, among other nationally and locally known artists. The show runs through March 18. The entire exhibit pertains to one of history’s most maligned and misunderstood animals - the wolf. Historically, fear of the wolf has been responsible foe most of the trouble the wolf has received. In North America, however, people realized that in over 100 years of documentation there have been no verified human fatalities caused by an attack from a healthy wolf. Much debate has occurred over the relationship between the wolf and the domestic dog and the dog is now normally classified as a subspecies of the wolf: Canis lupis familiaris. Their main differences are that the wolves have an average 30% larger brain, a better immune system, better sense of smell and are generally much larger than domestic dogs. The Cardinal Art Gallery is located at the corner of Rt. 94 and Vernon Crossing Rd. in Vernon. The gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For additional information contact them at 973-764-5050. Admission is free.
