MILFORD - Tickets to attend one of the dramatic readings of Charlotte’s Web at Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford are now available. Performances are scheduled for Friday, May 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dramatic readings were a popular form of entertainment in the nineteenth century. The US Forest Service at Grey Towers is partnering with the American Readers Theatre company to continue this tradition in the Great Hall of the historic 1886 mansion, once home to the Pinchot family. The award-winning production based on the family classic by E.B. White was adapted as a play for voices and encompasses the themes of nature, compassion and humanity. It is a favorite springtime classic and regional schools have been invited to participate in a related essay contest. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under age 12 and can be obtained at Grey Towers or by sending a check made out to the US Forest Service at Grey Towers, P.O. Box 188, Milford, PA, 18337. Please indicate which performance you prefer, and include contact information in case we need to reach you. Mail orders must be received by May 5. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Members of the American Readers Theatre Company performed the popular reading of “War of the Worlds” last Halloween at Grey Towers. The dramatic readings are a part of Grey Towers’ Conservation and the Arts program, which also includes music, landscape painting and field journaling.
