Civil War weekend at Columns

Milford n The Pike County Historical Society is hosting a living History of the Civil War at the Columns Museum on July 7 and 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. The program is presented by the Men and Women of the 56th New York Vol. Inf., the Xth Legion. Saturday’s events will include: “Unsung Heroines: Female Soldiers of the Civil War,” presented by Miss Lisa Poulos of the Ladies of the Xth Legion. Miss Poulos spent three years portraying a female soldier disguised as a man. “Life of a Union Soldier: Fun and (con)Games in the Ranks,” presented by Pvt. John Moran of the 56th NYVI. Sunday’s events will include “My Sister’s Words: Letters, Diaries, & Poems of the Women of the Civil War,” a moving presentation of the writing of the women left behind during the American Civil War, presented by Mrs. Joanna Szakmary of the Ladies of the Xth Legion. “Your Civil War Ancestor,” a special workshop on Sunday will be presented by Maj. Thomas Klein of the 2nd Regiment, USV. Come share your Civil War ancestor with us. Tables will be provided if needed. Demonstrations of Military Drill will be presented Saturday and Sunday along with other demonstrations both military and civilian. The 56th NYVI is a family friendly group. Bring your family to meet our family at the Columns Museum. Admission to the museum is a $5 donation for adults; children 12 and under are free. The Columns is located at 608 Broad Street in Milford.
