Dance for the river
BARRYVILLE, N.Y. Put on your most comfortable dancing shoes and get ready to dance all day and night. Damascus Citizens for Sustainability (DCS) will host a dance marathon fundraiser on Saturday, Oct 4 from noon until midnight at The Carriage House Restaurant at the intersection of state routes 55 and 97 in Barryville, N.Y. Each hour of the event will feature a different genre of music, including Country and Western, Rock and Roll from the 60s and 70s, Disco, Soul, R & B, Latin, and Swing and more. You can dance for the entire 12-hour stint, drop in for one or two hours of shaking and jiving or sponsor one of the dancers at the event. The marathon, conceived as a celebration of the Upper Delaware River’s unique beauty, will support the research and community service of DCS, an organization devoted to preserving the water quality of the river and its watershed. DCS has engaged in extensive research projects analyzing the potential impact of gas drilling on the river watershed, hosted community informational meetings, built a YouTube channel and Web site which gets over 100,000 hits each month, direct-mailed thousands of informational flyers, and provided crucial details about gas drilling to the press and general community.
