Diana Lesser paintings at the Artery

MILFORD The Artery, a fine art and craft gallery, will open a new exhibit featuring award-winning painter Diana Lesser with an opening reception from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. The exhibit will be on display Thursday, Sept. 10 through Monday, Oct. 5. Lesser has had a varied career starting with art education at The Art Students League in New York City. She worked for years in commercial design, eventually setting up her own design studio with a variety of major home furnishing manufacturers and mills as customers. It wasn’t until the early 90s that she decided to study painting, her real passion, working with Leatrice Rose, an eminent still life painter, and Cornelia Foss, a noted artist. Her oil paintings feature mostly interiors which are set in her Lords Valley home, where she spends seven months each year with George, her cat, whom she adopted last fall. It is from this refuge that her inspiration springs. She says, “Here in Pennsylvania is where my heart is. To me, it feels like I am living in a time warp, where things move at a gentler pace.” Works by the Artery’s other artists will also be on display at the gallery at the corner of Broad and Harford streets in Milford. The Artery is a cooperative gallery owned and operated by its members. Regular gallery hours are Thursday - Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. & Monday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Special Summer Saturday hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information call 570-409-1234.
