ESU presents Senior Seminar and Portfolio in Art Student Exhibition

The Madelon Powers Gallery of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will feature art works and portfolios of selected students in a Senior Seminar and Portfolio in Art Student Exhibition from April 22 through May 6.

The exhibition will include works that students produced for various clients as part of the art+ design department’s student design agency, New Mind Design, and comic art created at the Comic Thon, which was held on April 4.

Hours for the gallery, located in the university’s Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, April 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gallery. Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public at no cost.

At the reception, the 2015 Excellence in the Arts awards will be presented in art, music, theatre and dance. The art + design department will present the Dr. Irene Mitchel "Three Sisters Endowed Art Scholarship," which was established by Emerita Professor of Art Dr. Irene Mitchel in memory of her sisters, Helen Mitchel Stetz and Mary Mitchel Kurello. The Cecilia S. Cohen Award for Excellence in Art History will also be presented.

The exhibit will feature works by 10 senior art + design students including: Gabrielle Coleman of Bethlehem, Pa.; Meghan Fortmann of Phoenixville, Pa.; Brittany Hadfield of Holland, Pa.; Christopher Hingley of Phoenixville, Pa.; Celeste Hylton-James of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Jaclyn Marcantonio of Easton, Pa.; Stuart Pieters of Stroudsburg, Pa.; Jeffrey Reitz of Stroudsburg, Pa.; Summer Smith of Schwenksville, Pa.; and Katlyn Valenti of Hicksville, N.Y.

Works by David Canady, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., majoring in fine arts with a concentration in studio arts, also are included in the exhibit.

Junior art + design majors participating in the exhibit include Paul Burke of Saylorsburg, Pa.; Jonathan Outridge of Brodheadsville, Pa.; Sarah Poore of Allentown, Pa.; Angel Rodrieguez of Bethlehem, Pa.; Joseph Schatzman of Folsom, Pa.; and Jeremy Soto of East Stroudsburg, Pa.

Ceramic sculptures by Evelyn Barone, a junior biology major from Brodheadsville, Pa., and Sam Tabshi, a sophomore biology major from Allentown, Pa. also will be included in the exhibit.
