Experience Broadway, even when the theaters are dark
Muir House will launch all access Mondays on April 27 MILFORD Beginning Apr. 27, the Muir House brings a bit of Broadway to Milford with “All Access”. Every Monday evening, the Muir House will feature Broadway-based talent in unique, two-set performances designed to expose and explore the creative process by which musicians put together a show. The brainchild of prolific NYC-based musician Manny Moreria, the “All Access” performance offers a “fly on the wall” perspective through a two-set format. The first informal, “rehearsal” set consists of a few numbers worked through in front of the audience, complete with entertaining banter. During the second set the lights go down, and the audience will witness the finished product live, along with other numbers prepared in advance. A questionnaire will also be circulated during the break for requests. The band’s current line-up, subject to additions and subtractions, features Manny Moreira (guitars, vocals, musical direction), Kevin Kuhn (guitars), David Kuhn (bass, vocals), Karl Latham (drums, percussion), Denise Summerford and Doreen Montalvo (both on vocals), who will play a myriad of styles and eras, from Motown to the Police to Patsy Cline. Moreira is currently the guitarist for the four-Tony Award winning Broadway musical “In the Heights.” Other shows to his credit include “The Who’s Tommy on Broadway,” “Aida” and “Oh! Calcutta.” He has also handled musical direction and arrangements for several original off-Broadway shows, and performed with a myriad of well-known performers, including Eartha Kitt. Multi-instrumentalist Kevin Kuhn is currently guitarist for “Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway.” He has been on staff at Score Productions, Big Wave Music and Shelly Palmer Productions, which produced three seasons of music for “Spin City.” His additional credits include The Metropolitan Opera, The New York Philharmonic, The New York City Ballet, “Gangs of New York” and “The Producers”, among various others. David Kuhn is a singer, songwriter, musician and performer with more than 30 musicals to his credit. One of the original musicians involved in the development of The Who’s Tommy on Broadway, he was also the bass guitarist for the show’s entire Grammy Award-winning cast album, produced by George Martin (legendary Beatles producer). His talent extends to various appearances in feature film and television, including “Seinfeld,” “Friends” and “American Pie.” Most recently, David was the bassist for the Tony Award-winning hit show “Monty Python’s SPAMALOT”. Karl Latham is an internationally recognized drummer who has performed with Mark Egan, The Shirelles, The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars, Joe Lovano, Ed Cherry, Tomoko Ohno and Antonio Hart, to name just a few. Latham has released two CD’s to date, 1999’s “Dancing Spirits” and 2007’s “Resonance,” both of which garnered significant critical acclaim. Denise Summerford is a Broadway actress who has starred in such shows as the Rosie O’Donnell/Boy George musical “Taboo,” “The Rocky Horror Show Live,” “Saturday Night Fever” and “Grease.” She has performed with Boy George and Debbie Gibson, and currently sings with the legendary Lou Christie. Doreen Montalvo is a theatre performer and recording artist currently making her Broadway debut as Crazy Cuca in “In the Heights.” Her solo debut CD, “Volvere,” with Meme Solis, was nominated for 2005 Grammy Awards in Latin America and the U.S. All Access Mondays at the Muir House begin on Apr. 27. The music charge is $5. The first set begins at 7 p.m.; the second begins at 8 p.m. The Muir House is located at 102 state Route 2001 in Milford.
