Film series explores the power of love in the 21st century

NARROWSBURG, N.Y. On March 25, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance presents a second Tuesday evening film series on the theme of Love in the New World Order. Curated and organized by Jack and Jan Hirschfeld, the series features three recent films exploring the question: “Does love have the power to survive in the 21st Century?” The two remaining films include: “The Secret Life of Words,” and “The Half Life of Timofey Berezin.” Screenings will be followed by discussions facilitated by Jack Hirschfeld, who has been bringing thought provoking films to Sullivan County viewers since retiring to the area in 2000. Admission is free, donations are accepted. “The Secret Life of Words” (Directed by Isabel Coixet) Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. This haunting love story stars Sarah Polley as an immigrant factory worker who takes a job tending to a burn victim (Tim Robbins) on an isolated North Sea oil rig. “The Half Life of Timofey Berezin” (Directed by Scott Z. Burns) Tuesday, Apr. 1 at 7 p.m. Paddy Considine stars as a worker at a Russian nuclear facility who gets exposed to a lethal dose of radiation. In order to provide for his wife (Rahda Mitchell) and young son following his impending death, he steals some plutonium and sets out to sell it on Moscow’s black market with the help of an incompetent criminal.
