— Milford Borough will host its second annual Classical Music Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 5, free and open to all.
Musicians and ensembles from the tristate area and even Boston will perform in a range of musical styles.
Strings, brass, and songThe music starts at 1 p.m. with a grand opening at the Hotel Fauchere featuring the Ivani String Quartet from Boston (see sidebar for full line-up). Volunteers will be handing out flyers on the streets during the festival, and music students may be giving spontaneous performances by in the streets as well.
The final event will be an evening gala concert at the Milford Theatre. The Hanna Q Dance Company will present a short ballet to "Spring" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, then each group that performed during the day will play one piece. Finally, all the musicians will come together for a semi-orchestral grand finale conducted by Kindred Spirits Arts Programs' artistic director, Yosif Feigelson.
"Last summer we were trying something new when we organized this all-day, indoor-outdoor celebration of classical music, and it went better than even we had expected," says Feigelson. "This year we hope to repeat that success and, in fact, top it, because now we know the secret, First, enlist talented musicians. Second, show off Milford itself, with its leafy streets, historic buildings, shops, and people."
