MILFORD, PA - One of the finest chamber music ensembles in America will perform on the lawn of Grey Towers National Historic Site on Saturday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m., as part of the weekend Milford Music Festival. The concert, which will be held rain or shine, is free and open to the public. Praised by critics for their “warmth and polish,” the Arianna String Quartet has been featured in concerts at the Spoleto, Banff, Norfolk and Strings in the Mountains festivals and was Ensemble-in-Residence at the Tanglewood Music Center. In addition to performing throughout the world, the quartet was invited by Isaac Stern to perfom in his first-ever Carnegie Hall master classes. The performance is co-sponsored by the Milford Music Festival and the US Forest Service as part of the 2006 Kindred Spirits Music Series at Grey Towers, a program designed to nurture an interest in the environment through the arts. This is the second year that Grey Towers is participating in the Milford Music Festival and the collaboration fits right in with its mission and objectives. “We are eager to be a part of the Milford Music Festival,” said Grey Towers Director Richard Paterson. “We’re striving to increase our participation in community events and this is a logical and exciting match for both the Forest Service and the community.” Nancy Pinchot, who directs the Kindred Spirits Arts Series for the Pinchot Institute for Conservation at Grey Towers, said “that by collaborating with the Milford Music Festival, many more people will be able to hear the Kindred Spirits message, which is that nature and art are intimately connected. Listening to music in a gorgeous natural setting inspires a new receptivity to nature.” The Milford Music Festival is presented by Altec Lansing and other sponsors and will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 9, 10, and 11. While the headline performances are held on the main stage in Milford’s Ann Street Park, other venues such as Grey Towers will offer musical programs throughout the weekend.
