Give for a life to live

WESTFALL This is your chance to save a life! The United Way of Pike County and the Pike/Wayne Chapter of the American Red Cross are teaming up again for the 6th Annual Blood Drive, this year to be held on Sept. 20. The blood drive, begun as a 9/11 memorial activity, is part of the United Way’s Day of Caring to be held at the Delaware Valley Middle School Gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thanks to the efforts of Superintendent, Dr. Candis Finan of the Delaware Valley School District and Joe Casmus, Delaware Valley 11-12 high school principal, the Blood Drive will again be held in spacious surroundings where chances are you will run into your friends who are also lining up to give. Ray Wehner’s Delaware Valley Vo-tech students are baking lots of cookies to help you replenish and the Pike Chamber of Commerce is providing refreshments for Red Cross volunteers. Last year the Blood Drive produced 87 units of blood, and each unit saves three people. This year the goal is 100 units. If you would like to help us reach this goal, all you have to be is 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Do bring one form of identification with you. The Day of Caring is a special day in Pike County - it’s a day for giving back to community and, who knows, you might just save a life.
