Landmark will extend the visitor season this year MILFORD — Grey Towers National Historic Site in Milford will remain open on weekends through November instead of closing for the season. Tours will be given at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each weekend, except for Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 24-25). No public tours are offered during the week in November. The November weekend tours will bring visitors to all three floors of the mansion, in response to the popularity of the three-floor tour that the US Forest Service began offering this year. Because additional time is spent inside the mansion, these special tours spend a shortened time in the gardens. This new schedule gives the public additional access to the site while allowing staff to prepare the mansion and grounds for the traditional holiday Open House and related programs planned for December. Exact dates and programs can be found on the Grey Towers Web site, www.fs.fed.us/gt or the Grey Towers Heritage Association Web site at www.greytowers.org. November also is a busy month for the U.S. Forest Service at Grey Towers as it works with the Milford Business Council to welcome the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree to the borough on November 23. A number of festivities are planned around the arrival of the 60-foot Balsam Fir that will stand at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The tree, a parts tree, companion trees, items for sale and a number of holiday artifacts will spend the night in Milford on their way from the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont to Washington, D.C.
