MILFORD – Come see the historic gardens at Grey Towers National Historic Site – including the historic Sweet Cherry Tree -- awaken from their winter slumber with a special landscape tour on Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. US Forest Service Horticulturist Elizabeth Hawke will lead “Evolution of the Grey Towers Landscape: Springtime in Cornelia’s Gardens” and introduce visitors to the native flowering shrubs, the historic Sweet Cherry Tree, which should be in full bloom, the flowering bulbs along the Locust Allee and other unique features of the historic landscape. This special landscape tour differs from regular public tours because the entire program will be focused on the exterior grounds of the estate. Group size is limited and pre-registration is suggested. Regular tour fees apply. Participants should meet in the Visitor Pavilion located in the parking lot and wear comfortable shoes for this walking tour. Cornelia Pinchot designed and cultivated the landscape and gardens at Grey Towers beginning in the 1920s. The mansion was donated to the public in 1963 and currently is administered by the USDA Forest Service as a museum, education and conference center. For more information or to pre-register, call 570-296-9630 or send an email to greytowers@fs.fed.us. For more information about other Grey Towers programs, visit the website at www.fs.fed.us/gt .
