Kavak Harp Trio to perform

| 12 Aug 2015 | 12:49

The Kavak Harp Trio will perform locally at Grey Towers in Milford on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 5:30 p.m. and at Hawley Silk Mill in Hawley on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m.

Trio Kavak is Amelia Lukas (flute), Victor Lowrie (viola) and Kathryn Andrews (harp). An instrumental ensemble established by Debussy’s masterpiece sonata, Kavak explores the contemporary repertoire and new sound possibilities for this highly evocative combination. Comprised of three adventurous and young New York talents, Kavak brings together highly refined chamber music performance with a feeling of modern immediacy and relevance.

Sought after by composers for their accuracy and flexibility, Trio Kavak has worked with Sasha Siem, Christopher Dietz, Simon Holt, Angelica Negron, Andrew Struck-Marcell, Fang Man, Andrew McKenna Lee the Random Access Music Composers Collective and more.

All three instrumentalists are graduates of Manhattan School of Music's master's program and are well-known for other high-profile projects: Amelia is flutist with the American Modern Ensemble and directs Ear Heart Music, a multi-media chamber music series; Victor is a violist with the world-renowned Mivos Quartet; and Kathryn Andrews comprises one half of the Grammy ballot nominated Duo Scorpio.

Their performances as a trio include engagements with Roulette, The Southampton Cultural Center Chamber Music Series, Random Access Music, The New York Guitar Seminar, The Walden School, and the Queens New Music Festival.

Tickets $20 at the door or in advance on Eventbrite and at Books and Prints at Pear Alley (220 Broad Street, open Wednesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., 570-296 4777). Both spaces are limited: buy tickets in advance.
