MILFORD — The November exhibition at the Artery Gallery in Milford, will feature the photographic artistry of John Kiersten of Florida, N.Y. The exhibition runs from Nov. 8 until Dec. 3 with a reception on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to the reception where many of the gallery artists will be in attendance. John Kiersten is a self-taught photographer who began making black and white photographs and developing his own prints in 1989. It soon became apparent that what he wanted to see in his prints were the detail and tonality of the fine art black and white print. This led him to begin photographing exclusively with large format 8”x10” and 8”x 20” cameras. Although he photographs abstracts and people, his primary source of inspiration is his love of the landscape. John has continued an ongoing project “Views - The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area” as well as his series involving the figure in the landscape, “Gestures - Sacred and Secular”. Although he makes traditional black and white prints, he also makes hand-made platinum prints in selected editions. Living in Florida, N.Y. for many years, John has photographed mostly in the Tri-State area, having a special affinity for the space and light of the Peters Valley region. Besides working as a quality control manager in New Jersey, John has donated his time to the Appalachian Trail in New York. His work has been shown nationally and in several local venues and publications. The Artery Gallery is located at the stoplight in Milford, PA. It is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Mondays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 570-409-1234.
