— Lacawac Sanctuary in Lake Ariel is hosting a farm-to-plate dinner to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Awards will also be presented at the dinner, which will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at The Historic Watres Lodge at Lacawac. The cost is $125 per person.
The culinary creations of Chef Ben Sutter of the Settlers Hospitality Group will be served.
Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to Dr. Craig Williamson of Miami University, Ohio; and Dr. Susan S. Kilham of Drexel University, Philadelphia.
Williamson's early research was on trophic interactions involving zooplankton, but in the past 16 years his work has focused on the ecology of ultraviolet light in alpine lakes worldwide. As part of his service to the scientific and global community, Williamson serves on the United Nations Environment Programme Environmental Effects Assessment Panel on ozone depletion.
Kilham has extensive international experience in aquatic ecosystems and is the author of over 75 scientific publications. In the past decade, she has researched areas related to the impacts of climate change on ecosystems. She currently serves as a trustee at Lacawac.
