Lesser and Bialos featured at the Artery

MILFORD The Artery, a fine art and craft gallery, will open a new exhibition featuring award winning painters Diana Lesser and Al Bialos. The public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 4 - 8 p.m. Diana Lesser, a new member of the gallery, is a retired textile designer who studied at the Arts Student League in New York City. She specializes in interior still-lifes painted in oil. Her paintings emphasize the stillness in the term still life. There is a strong sense of peace and reverence that envelopes the objects she portrays. Her academic training at the Art Students League is evident in her compositions and brushwork. Her work should be well received by the public. Al Bialos is a veteran member of the gallery and his paintings are in strong contrast to Diana’s. Al paints the human figure with acrylics and mixed media. He simplifies the forms into flat areas of brilliant and contrasting color giving us strong messages that are serious and often quite witty. He has received many awards for his paintings and is represented in many art collections around the world. Works by the Artery’s other 20 artists will also be on display at the spacious gallery located in Forest Hall at the corner of Broad and Harford streets in Milford. The Artery is a cooperative gallery owned and operated by its members. The gallery is open Thursday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Monday noon - 5 p.m. The current exhibit ends Sept. 8.
