Library Friends busing to Mystic Seaport
Overnight trip to seaport village benefits Friends MILFORD An overnight bus trip to Mystic Seaport, Ct. is planned by The Friends of the Pike County Public Library. Trip Coordinator Joyce Clark invites you to join them on Oct. 5 & 6 as they visit the re-created 1870’s coastal village. Their comfortably air-conditioned bus will leave the Sunshine Station parking lot in Milford at 7:30 a.m. bound for the “Nutmeg State.” Lunch will be on your own in the quaint town of Mystic where you can sample a slice of pizza at the famous Mystic Pizza Restaurant, featured in the 1988 movie of the same name starring Julia Roberts. The restaurant walls are covered with memorabilia and autographed photos of the stars. If pizza is not your dish, you may choose any restaurant in town. After lunch, our group will be transported to America’s leading maritime museum, The Museum of America and the Sea. Here you will view majestic tall ships and historic vessels in the preservation shipyard. You’ll see the Charles W. Morgan, a wooden whaling ship. Strolling the 17 acre indoor/outdoor museum, you’ll encounter role players who will enhance your knowledge of the 19th century era. You might want to take a horse and carriage ride around the village, or delight in the beautiful museum gardens. Visit the Maritime Art Gallery. Don’t forget the gift shop which features rare books on seafaring, and scrimshaw items. In the late afternoon, we will check into the Hampton Inn and relax before dining at a local restaurant. On Day Two, October 6th, after breakfast at the hotel, the group will visit the picturesque Mistick Village complex, which houses 60 unique shops. A water wheel, duck pond, and tree lined streets create the atmosphere of a coastal village of the 1870’s. Next stop on the bus is the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Ct. In addition to the beautiful artistic renderings, a featured exhibit will show Connecticut River Valley schoolgirl antique needlework, and two dozen specially created artistic scarecrows on the grounds. Lunch on day two is included at the Marshfield House on the Museum grounds overlooking the Lieutenant River. After lunch we will tour this lovely garden and home which houses many impressionist paintings. The money details Cost for this trip is $195 per person, double, or $230 single.
