The Sussex County Library System invites readers of all ages to participate in the library’s summer reading program, now underway through Aug, 7 at all library locations.

The theme for 2021 is “Tails and Tales.” In keeping with Covid guidelines at the time of scheduling, all programming is outdoors or online.

Youth programs and crafts will focus on animals and animal stories, including themed storytimes outside at each branch, take-and-make crafts, on-site animal adoption events, and much more. Adult programs will not be as animal-oriented, but will embrace nature with outdoor art class, yoga, Qi-Gong, and a walking book club, among other activities.

Reading and participation equals prizes in five different age groups: pre-k, children, tween, teen, and adult. Registration and reading are logged through a program called READsquared. Available for use on a computer desktop, or as a free download from the App Store and Google Play, READsquared allows participants to log reading (each minute equals one point) and earn bonus points for participating in online missions, attending programs and submitting book reviews. Points convert to raffle tickets. The more tickets entered, the better the chance to win a wide variety of prizes including a $100 Crystal Springs gift certificate for adults, a Nintendo Switch for teens, and a busload of Pigeon books by Mo Willems for preschoolers.
