NARROWSBURG, N.Y. — “Organa,” an exhibition of landscape photographs by Glenn Lieberman opens at the Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg, N.Y. on Friday, Sept. 12, with an artist’s reception from 7- 9 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through Oct. 4. “I photograph for intellectual stimulation, and for the pleasure of capturing and transforming images that provoke thought, feelings, or narrative,” says photographer Glenn Lieberman. “Organa” is a compilation of pictures captured and transformed from places he has lived or visited in recent years. The surfaces of these landscapes range from the serene to the lively, but Lieberman says, “they are pulled together by a number of simultaneously active components, at least one of which is essential to the place.” Lieberman began his adult life as a composer and has written musical works in the classical tradition, receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship, and grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, as well as others. He explains how his musical training influences his visual art: “To analyze some of what I like about landscape images, I have borrowed from the musical term organum (Latin for organ, possibly derived from organare, to organize), a Western polyphonic work written during the 9th through 13th centuries, and formed by a primary musical line to which one or more simultaneous melodies have been added.” Lieberman lives and works in New York City and Torrey, Pa. This exhibit, free and open to the public. Alliance Gallery is located at the Delaware Arts Center at 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg, Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, call 845-252-7576 or visit www.ArtsAllianceSite.org.
