Wayne-Pike counties — March for Babies, formerly known as WalkAmerica, is the March of Dimes’ premier fundraising event that benefits all babies - those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive. The Wayne/Pike March for Babies will take place on Sunday, Sept. 21 at The Hideout in Lake Ariel. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and officially steps-off at 10 a.m. Residents from Wayne and Pike Counties, along with those from The Hideout, are encouraged to sign up today to help fund lifesaving research and educational programs aimed at reaching the goal of giving every baby a healthy start. Walkers can go to www.marchforbabies.org to register and immediately begin raising money to help make a difference. Any walker raising $150 or more will receive the official 2008 March for Babies t-shirt. Teams made up of friends, family and co-workers may also register, raise money and walk together - it’s a great way to show community spirit, have fun and be a champion for babies. More than 100 walkers are expected to lace up their walking shoes and enjoy the four-mile scenic walk through the North Gate section of The Hideout. Start/Finish location will be at the OSC Pavillion Area. The Hideout Adult Social Group will be sponsoring a checkpoint along the way and providing walkers with water and snacks. Sponsorship opportunities are still available ranging from $100 for a mile marker to $2,500 to be a site sponsor. Any business interested should contact Amanda Becker at the March of Dimes office, 570-829-1019.
