— John Berendt, author of the non-fiction bestseller "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," will be appearing at the first annual Milford Readers and Writers Festival in Milford on Oct. 1.
Berendt has been an editor of the Harvard Lampoon, Esquire, and New York magazines. "Midnight," his first book, was a finalist for the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction, spent a record-breaking 216 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list, and became a major motion picture starring Kevin Spacey, Jude Law, and John Cusack.
His most recent book, "The City of Falling Angels," was also a number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Milford Borough Mayor Sean Strub, also proprietor of the Hotel Fauchère and author of "Body Counts, A Memoir," will be talking with Berendt.
Discussions will include how Berendt approached the task of writing a book about a landmark murder case in Savannah, Ga., and what it was like to have John Cusack play him in a movie. The format will encourage audience members to share their questions and opinions with the speakers.
“I have known John for years, and I have always found him to be an engaging and entertaining speaker,” Strub said. “Given his experience over the course of more than 50 years as a writer and editor, I expect we will have a fascinating, wide-ranging discussion.”
Other festival headliners include iconic writer, political activist, and feminist organizer Gloria Steinem and award-winning filmmaker, rapper, and professor MK Asante, best-selling author of "Buck: A Memoir."
