Museum at Bethel Woods offers free admission on Sept. 24

BETHEL, N.Y. — The Museum at Bethel Woods in Bethel, N.Y., will open its doors free of charge on Saturday, Sept. 24, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day Live!
On this day, participating museums across the United States emulate the spirit of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington DC-based facilities, which offer free admission every day.
In addition to its main exhibit, the museum presents, "Rights, Race and Revolutions: A Portrait of LIFE in 1960s America" by Grey Villet. This special exhibit features the work of LIFE magazine photojournalist Grey Villet, whose photo essays helped to document the events of a world in transition during the 1960s.
On display through Dec. 31. In the Corridor Gallery, "3 Days of Peace and Music: The Performers of the Woodstock Festival," features vignettes on each of the 32 groups that performed at Woodstock. From Richie Havens' opening performance to Jimi Hendrix's rousing closing performance, this exhibit tells the story of each group, pre- and post-Woodstock, and how each of the bands left a lasting impact on music and popular culture.
New this year in celebration of Bethel Woods' 10th anniversary, the Crossroads Gallery features "Tonight on the Pavilion Stage: The First Ten Years," an exhibit of photographs of each Bethel Woods Pavilion concert since 2006.
The Museum Day Live! ticket is available for download at Smithsonian.com/museumday. Visitors who present the ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues, including the Museum at Bethel Woods on Sept. 24. One ticket per household is permitted.

The Museum at Bethel Woods is open daily through Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From Oct. 11 through Dec. 31, The museum is open Thursday through Sunday only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and from Jan. 1 through March.
