Narrowsburg exhibit to open in August

NARROWSBURG, N.Y. — “(w)RECK/LESS,” an exhibit of recent work by Barbara Zweig, opens with a reception on Friday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Delaware Arts Center’s Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg. The exhibit will be on view through Aug. 26.
“The camouflage pattern appeals to me as it is immediately recognizable and rich in associations.” said Zweig, who has worked for years in fashion and costume production. “It is used as an attempt to conceal a human in nature. he works in this show are from an ongoing series that addresses our relationship to nature and the dominance that humans exert over it.”
Zweig, who received a BFA from Andrews University in Michigan, works primarily in oil and canvas, along with a variety of mixed media. Her current paintings are on shaped canvases, many layered or built out with additional materials like nylon, sheer polyester, PVC canvas or second layers of cut canvas.
“I am most interested in form, in overall shape, and in the image used, and how they work together,” she added.
Zweig was born in Chicago lives and works in Northeast Pennsylvania.
Alliance Gallery is located at the Delaware Arts Center at 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg, N.Y., and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
