New art show opens at Chant Realty
MILFORD A group of woman artists is presenting a mixed media show titled, “Beyond Fruits and Vegetables,” at Davis R. Chant Realtors, 106 East Harford Street. There will be a complimentary “Fun Wine & Cheese Art Premiere” on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by an artist’s talk at 6:30 p.m., Cathy Neri presenting “These aren’t your Grandmother’s Quilts.” Artists: Tricia C. Adler, Norma Bernstock, Pat Dunn, Gloria Gehl, Cathy Neri, Mary Paterson, Dori Tighe, and Joann Wells Greenbaum are a group of women artists who have been meeting weekly since spring of 2005. Offering support to each other as artists, they were initially inspired by the book “The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron. The artists and their work include: Joann- a painter whose works include original whimsical watercolor paintings & limited edition prints. Dori - a fabric artist specializing in non-traditional wall hangings. Pat showcases her oil on board - a whimsical winged pear rightfully named PEAR-O-DYNAMIC. Norma’s Polaroid Image Transfers - one of a kind photographs inspired by Historical architecture, icons of American pop culture or scenes reminiscent of the past. Tricia premiers “Sculptural Objects/ Functional Forms,”- mixed media work employing recycled inner tubes, carved wood and found objects. Mary works with pastel, watercolor, oil and charcoal in realistic subjects- landscapes, still life and portraits. Cathy’s creative roots are in traditional quilt making, but her recent work can best be described as highly embellished fabric and paper collages. Gloria works in many medias, finding graphite to be her first love with the excitement over the interaction of lights and dark.
