MILFORD - On April 21, the Seventh St. Coffee, at 611 Broad Street in Milford will be holding an “Open Mic Night” and Poetry Reading from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is sponsored by Survivors’ Resources of Pike County and its teen group RYOT. RYOT, (Rallying Youth Organizers Together Against Rape), are a group of local teens who are making a difference in raising awareness in our high schools around the issues of sexual assault and violence. RYOT has used performance art in the form of socio-drama, to educate and create an understanding of a teen’s views on violence and sexual assault as it appears not only here in Wayne and Pike counties but in society as a whole. There are seventeen RYOT members representing Delaware Valley High School and Wallenpaupack High School, under the guidance of Cindy Stine of Survivors’ Resources, Inc.. The group originated under the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape. This talented and proactive collection of young people recently performed at a conference in Washington, D.C., the first of its kind, held at the National Center for Victims of Crime. All are welcome to attend and participate in the “Open Mic Night” event. Bring your poetry, songs, musical instruments and share with us.
