Paintings by Marie Liu at Hotel Fauchere

MILFORD — The Hotel Fauchere is hosting an exhibit of paintings by Marie Liu from May 9 to June 18, 2017. There will be a reception on Tuesday, May 9, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Liu has been painting images of Pike County since moving to Milford in 2009. Captivated by the rugged and pristine landscape, waterfalls and history, she set herself on a course to learn about and depict the region, to the exclusion of all else.
"There is a quality to this place that is almost indescribable and haunting," said Liu. "When you tap into it, it becomes an obsession. A happy obsession as it provides me with endless inspiration and focus for my work."
After graduating from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver, Liu returned to the Northeast where she was raised. Working in the high end silkscreen wallpaper industry for a decade, she was then co-owner of Star Gallery in Middletown, N.Y. for the next decade. She has been a partner of the ARTery, a cooperative gallery in Milford for eight years and has recently finished a year-long term as the resident artist of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
She presents her research on the history of art of the region at local venues and museums.
The historic Hotel Fauchere in Milford was founded by Louis Fauchere, a master chef at The Delmonico, the first and most famous restaurant in America in the mid-19th century and operated by the Fauchere family for more than 125 years. In 2008, it was restored and reopened by Sean Strub and Dick Snyder.
The Hotel Fauchere is located at 410 Broad St. in Milford. For more information, call 570-409-1212 or go to hotelfauchere.com.
