'Re-membering the Goddess'

NARROWSBURG — Hana Marritz will present a talk and slideshow titled “Re-membering the Goddess" at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, in Krause Recital Hall at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, 37 Main St. (second floor), Narrowsburg, N.Y.
She will lead a visual journey revealing how the goddess archetype of the Divine Feminine first appeared in human consciousness, the many forms she took throughout history, and how she was transformed and finally suppressed in the modern age with the rise of patriarchy.
“Humans are storytellers,” said Marritz. "The stories we tell also inform the type of world we create. The Goddess, Sleeping Beauty, Humpty Dumpty, and Marilyn Monroe are all myths that reveal a great deal about our perceptions of reality.”
The Divine Feminine first appeared in art in prehistoric times as mother, creator, and nurturer. Throughout history she took on various other guises as healer, protector, priestess, guide in the underworld, and recycler of souls.
Marritz is a former New York City high school art teacher who now makes her home and studio in Equinunk, Pa. She is an exhibiting artist, a board member of the Wayne County Arts Alliance, and member of the newly formed Callicoon Artists Cooperative. She is an award-winning author and photographer of seven children’s books about nature.
Admission is $10 for this event. Seating is limited and reservations are encouraged. Call 845-252-7576 or visit delawarevalleyartsalliance.org.
