BUSHKILL — Just in time for the fall migration along Kittatinny Ridge, Bill Streeter, director of Delaware Valley Raptor Center, will bring five wonderful birds of prey -- a hawk, a falcon, an eagle, and two owls -- to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Saturday, Oct. 13. This free program is back in the national park this year by popular demand and reservations will be required. Streeter’s presentation at the Bushkill Meeting/Visitor Center on Route 209 will be at 7 p.m. The evening offers adults and children an opportunity to learn about wildlife rehabilitation, predator-prey relationships, specific adaptations of raptors and wildlife issues today. Call 570-426-2490 (voice mail) to leave your name, phone and the number of guests you are bringing to insure your seats. Delaware Valley Raptor Center is a private, non-profit state and federally licensed organization dedicated to humane professional care for orphaned, ill, and injured raptors, with the goal to ultimately return them to the wild. Bring the kids and the camera for this exciting evening! This free program is the sixth in a series of seven from May through November. For further information, call either of the park’s two visitor centers on weekends, at 908-496-4458 or 570-828-2253, or park headquarters on weekdays at 570-588-2452. Information can also be found on the park’s website, www.nps.gov/dewa , under “News/Events/Closures”. The final program in the series is a Family Fun Day, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon with more live wild life from the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Crafts and refreshments will be included in this special afternoon and reservations are suggested. Call 570-426-2490 to leave your reservation message. The free lecture series is sponsored by the not-for-profit park conservancy, Friends of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and arranged by the park’s interpretive staff. The Friends are dedicated to supporting the historic, scientific, educational, recreational and natural resource management activities in the park and to raising funds for special park projects. You too can demonstrate your love of the wonderful resources in the recreation area by becoming a Friend of the Delaware Water Gap NRA. To learn how you can join the Friends, call 570-426-2435, ext. 2510, visit their website at www.friendsofdewa.org, or attend one of the lectures.
