Small is beautiful at the DVAA gallery

, N.Y. — The annual “Art in Sixes” small works exhibition now at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance gallery features more than 500 miniature artworks by local artists.
The artwork may not exceed six inches in any direction. It covers a wide range of studio mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber, ceramics, and photography. All the pieces are for sale and reasonably priced for holiday gift giving. Prices generally range from $25 to $900.
“I work hard to make this exhibition open to all the artists in our community and beyond,” says gallery director Rocky Pinciotti. “Thanks to all these artists, the exhibition is full of exciting, high-quality artwork at affordable prices.”
The first “Art in Sixes” exhibit launched in 2005 with 98 works of art. In 2016, it had grown to 528 pieces hung on seven walls, and the front window. It's now a signature year-end event for the DVAA.
Although the work does not have to be exactly six by six inches, more and more artists each year are going with the six-inch square format. Having many square works of the same size allows Pinciotti to create feature walls with a gridwork pattern that can feature up to 100 works of art evenly displayed in rows and columns.
Submissions are open to anyone and because of that, the exhibition attracts a number of creative people working in a variety of forms, said Pinciotti.
“For many, working that small is a refreshing new challenge," he said.
“Art in Sixes” is at the Alliance Gallery, 37 Main St., Narrowsburg, N.Y., now through Saturday, Dec. 23. For more information call 845-252-7576 or visit delawarevalleyartsalliance.org.
