The state of the lake
Wallenpaupack watershed is subject of Conservancy program HAWLEY Karen Mandeville, district administrator for the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District, will give a power point presentation at the PPL’s Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center on April 20 at 7 p.m. The program is presented by the Lackawaxen River Conservancy. She will discuss the goals and accomplishments of the Watershed District, review recently completed projects and new projects to cut down on the movement of nutrient-laden sediments to the lake. Information on the water quality monitoring program and reports on the overall condition of the lake over the last few years will be offered. In addition, PPL staff will present a brief history of the lake. A question and answer session will follow. Lake Wallenpaupack and its watershed make up about one third of the Lackawaxen River watershed and its condition greatly affects the health of the river downstream. Anyone interested in what’s going on above the dam is encouraged to attend this event celebrating the Lackawaxen River ; Pennsylvania’s 2010 River of the Year. Admission is free. About the conservancy As part of its continuing public outreach program The Lackawaxen River Conservancy presents a variety of topics of local concern. Established by local citizens in 2001 its mission is to promote and preserve the environment of the Lackawaxen River watershed and the water quality of the Lackawaxen River, promote the natural bounties thereof, provide educational materials on the benefits of and methods to achieve protection and preservation of the natural integrity of the watershed, and protect and preserve terrestrial and aquatic life in the watershed.
