Four local artists celebrate, honor, and tell the story of our NEPA landscape, the local nature, life and the emotions it evokes in a new art show taking place at the Dorflinger Factory Museum titled “Our Living Woods,” beginning October 20 and concluding November 18.

Featured artists are Judith Bodman, Jill Carletti, Thomas Colbert, and Kevin Storms. Works will feature a variety of paintings interpreting the terrain through realistic, emotive and reflective lenses. A few of the included works will feature oil paintings of the historic Lock 31 House, native woodland animals, vistas of local rivers, figures in landscape, and still lifes in nature.

The art reception for “Our Living Woods” takes place on Friday, October 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dorflinger Factory Museum, located at 670 Texas Palmyra Hwy, White Mills. The event is free and open to the public to meet the artists and see the works in person. The show can be seen during regular visiting hours of the Dorflinger Factory Museum, Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All featured artists have been in some practice of artmaking since childhood and are greatly influenced by the beauty of the northeast Pennsylvania landscape. They value the art making process and the aim of capturing the spirit of the region.

Thomas Colbert reflects on his work and this show saying, “I have painted all my life and find that painting is magical. It is the transformation of a blank canvas and an idea into something that is new and unpredictable. I have always been drawn to light, reflection, and an active surface and I aim to elevate the ordinary to become something special.”

Judy Bodman stated, “My two favorite times to observe nature and the landscape is very early in the morning and just as the sun is getting lower during the golden hour. I have painted in many locations, but my favorite place to paint is here, in Pike and Wayne counties.”

Jill Carletti added, “I am in awe of nature, and certainly of our local terrain. When I paint, I attempt to capture the mystery and wonder of what I see. I love to keep my work feeling atmospheric, ethereal and whimsical and enjoy working in realism, impressionism and a tinge of fantasy.”

Kevin Storms started painting and drawing at an early age, and has been a lifelong outdoorsman. His work is a reflection of his travels in life and shows deep attachment.

The Dorflinger Factory Museum is a regional industrial heritage museum celebrating the history and craftsmanship of the Dorflinger Glass Companies in Brooklyn, New York, and White Mills, Pennsylvania.
