Travel to historic Gettysburg among friends - Sept. 1 deposit deadline coming up for library bus trip

MILFORD The Friends of the Pike County Public Library (PCPL)are planning a three day bus trip to the historic Civil War town of Gettysburg. Trip coordinator Joyce Clark has announced dates of Oct. 7 to Oct. 9, with a limit of 44 people to fill the bus. Safe parking for your car will be provided at the Sunshine Station on Route 6, Milford. The bus will leave the Sunshine Station at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 7. The trip will include a guided tour of the Eisenhower Farm, (retirement home of Ike and Mamie) and a visit to the new National Park Service Visitors Center (opened 2008), where participants will view the historic film “New birth of Freedom” and Cyclorama. The trip includes a two-hour guided tour of the Civil War Battle field. The battle of Gettysburg, which encompassed three days, was the turning point of the Civil War. Later, the tour will visit the Hall of Presidents where there is also a collection of First Ladies Inaugural ball gowns. Another stop will be a tour of the Shriver House, and witness a living history presentation by Abe Lincoln himself. For accommodations, the tour stay at the new country Inns and Suites, which has an indoor pool and an exercise room. A full breakfast at the hotel is included daily. One of the two dinners will be at the restored Colonial Gettysburg Hotel on the Square; the other will be at the Carriage House Inn in nearby Emmitsburg, Md. There will be a lunch at the oldest house in Gettysburg, (built in 1776)) now the Dobbin House Restaurant, and time after lunch in their fabulous gift shop. There will be time for browsing the wonderful art galleries and antique shops on the square in the heart of Gettysburg. If you would like to join in this fabulous all-inclusive trip, a deposit of $100 must be paid by Sept. 1. The cost for a double room is $385 per person. A single room is $465.00.
