Tree lighting is a countdown to splendor

MILFORD — Milford's annual Christmas tree lighting returns to the grounds of the Community House on Saturday, Dec. 3.
This eagerly awaited celebration features free hot cocoa and cookies for all. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Dingman Delaware Middle School Chorus will sing seasonal songs under the direction of Brian Krauss.
Join local residents and visitors for the ceremonial countdown to the lighting of Milford's tree, at 5:15 p.m. One hundred trees lining Milford's downtown streets and the star overlooking Milford will also light up for the season.
As part of the countdown, Santa Claus will arrive atop Milford Fire Department's Engine 33. He'll be escorted by a cool team of reindeer on motorcycles from the Pike County chapter of ABATE.
Many of Milford's specialty stores and art galleries will remain open afterward for holiday shopping. Local shops offer everything from kayaks to candy, jewelry to home decor, with most offering locally made and handcrafted one-of-a-kind gifts. Milford eateries are open into the night, as always, to accommodate dining before and after the event.
Don't forget to bring your camera — and your wish list for Santa.
The historic Community House is located at 201 Broad Street and East Harford Street.
This event is sponsored by the Milford Lions Club and Milford Presents, the nonprofit volunteer organization that also produces Milford Music Festival, Toast to Milford, and Girls Night Out. For more information visit milfordpa.us.
