Vanessa Carlton headlining music fest

Grammy nominated singer/songwriter/pianist and Pike native to perform MILFORD The dates have been set and Milford Music Festival will return on June 6 and 7. Featuring a broad range of musical acts, festival organizers promise that this year’s event will continue to be a free family-friendly festival. Singer, songwriter, pianist and Milford-native Vanessa Carlton will return home on Saturday, June 6, to perform a program specially produced for this event. Best known for 2003’s Grammy nominated Song of the Year “A Thousand Miles” and debuting songs from her most recent album “Heroes & Thieves,” Carlton will take center stage behind a Yahama baby grand piano, backed vocally by select students from Delaware Valley High School. Other performances scheduled for the festival include Traveling Man, a high-energy blues band from New Jersey and Roots N Rhythm. Nationally acclaimed recording artist Bashiri Johnson best known for his work with Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton, and Miles Davis, partners with Jah Stix for a percussion driven set that will surely enliven the Ann Street stage. Woodstock area’s Mike Smith Band, a Tribute to Noel Coward (as performed at New York City’s National Arts Club), and performances by the DV Jazz Band (featuring noted singer Natasha Green) and the DV Choir will round out Saturdays program. On Sunday, the main stage will come alive at 2 p.m. Presented by Music In The Park (www.milfordmusic.net) as their summer-series kickoff, the Ann Street main stage will feature three performances and wind down the weekend at 6 p.m. Ann Street Park is located at 5th & West Ann streets, Seven acts will perform on Saturday’s main stage, with a lunchbreak between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Throughout town, restaurants and shopkeepers will host sidestage musical performances and entertainment all weekend long. After-party events keep the music going well into the night in Milford’s many terrific eateries. Make it a full weekend with an overnight stay in one of the areas great B&B’s, inns, or hotels.
