DINGMANS FERRY — To keep local waterways clean and healthy, the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) will be hosting Watershed Stewardship Day at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.
Participants will be picking up trash along roadsides, trails, and streams. Some volunteers will be identifying invasive species and helping to remove these plants. Everyone will receive a gift for participating.
“This event is going to be a great way to help take care of the river," said Sheri Bone, PEEC’s Group Coordinator and the driving force behind the Earth Day Watershed Stewards. "Many people would like to be part of a ‘river clean-up’ activity, and this is the way to begin. Being a Watershed Steward is not difficult, and it’s the perfect opportunity for individuals or groups to share their love of the environment."
Local high schools and colleges will be participating in a chili cook-off that will serve as lunch.
Representative Rosemary Brown, National Park Service Superintendent John Donahue, and local township officials will be participating as well.
Snack and lunch will be provided. Call PEEC at 570-828-2319 by April 8 to register.
This is a free event, and sign-ups can be made for groups or individuals.
The Pocono Environmental Education Center is a non-profit located within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area between Milford and Bushkill.
