Women and their Woods: “Field Identification of Forest Health Issues”
LOOKOUT The Delaware Highlands Conservancy and the Federal Forest Service at Grey Towers presents an ongoing series of workshops specially tailored for women forest landowners offered from March through October. This workshop, Field Identification of Forest Health Issues, will take place on Sunday, May 3 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Olver Family’s award winning tree farm, Tall Timber Tree Farm, near Lookout. Recognized as Pennsylvania Outstanding Tree Farmers for 2007 and Northeast United States Outstanding Tree Farmers for 2008, the Olver family’s primary management goal for Tall Timber Tree Farm is to grow and harvest high quality forest products in an ecologically sound manner. Janet Olver of Tall Timber Tree Farm will talk about the American Tree Farm Program and provide a history of the Tall Timber Tree Farm. Presenter Thomas Hall, Forest Pathologist of the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Division of Forest Pest Management, will discuss the common insects and diseases in the forest and lead a woods walk to identify some of these insects and diseases. Join other women forest landowners for a dynamic workshop focused on identifying common insects and diseases in Pennsylvania’s forest and learn about the American Tree Farm Certification Program. A potluck lunch will take place at Tall Timber Tree Farm and participants are asked to bring a favorite dish to share. The program is free and open to any woman, but prior registration is required. This program has a raindate of May 17th. Future workshop dates are Aug. 1st and Oct. 24. Please watch for future announcements.
