'You've Got a Friend' pays tribute to women songwriters

PORT JERVIS — A new musical revue opens at Marsh Hall in Port Jervis titled “You’ve got a Friend," showcasing songs written by women and performed by an all-female cast.
Fifteen members of the Presby Players, directed by Jeffrey Stocker with musical direction by Sandy Stalter, will present songs ranging from pop, to country western, to Broadway.
“It’s about the power of women," Stocker said. “Many great composers of the '70s and '80s haven’t received the accolades they deserve, and their music isn’t played enough.”
Stocker said the songwriters include (but are not limited to) Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Jewel, and Carly Simon. Some of the songs to be performed are “Both Sides Now," “The Rose," 9 to 5," and of course, the title song, “You’ve Got a Friend."
Olivia Stanzl will sing “White Horse” by Taylor Swift.
“I love performing," she said.
See the show at Marsh Hall, 60 Sussex St., in Port Jervis on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1, at 7 p.m.; and on Sunday, July 2, at 3 p.m. The tickets are $10 tickets and will be available at the door one hour prior to the show.
