Local historian Sue Gardner will discuss some of the local folkways and tales contained in Eliza Benedict Hornby’s “Under Old Rooftrees” on Sept. 28 at Wisner Public Library. The book was published in 1908 after Benedict’s lifetime of collecting stories of her family and neighbors, reaching back in time to colonial days.

What were the seasonal gatherings? What was life like? What phenomena and events did they witness? Can we find sources that help us know if the richly embroidered stories are at their core true?

Open to ages 12-adult; copies of the book are available. It has been digitized with annotations and can be downloaded on the program registration page or call the Help Desk with questions or for assistance with registration: 845 986 1047 option 3.
