Matamoras — Roger Howard, former Matamoras Borough director of public works, who died March 29, of last year, was memorialized at a ceremony held in June at Airport Park. A gathering of more than 50 relatives, friends, fellow workers, and Borough officials were on hand to celebrate the memory of his life. His wife, Susan, son Roger, daughter Jennifer Glass, mother Elizabeth Bohannan, sister Patricia Reynolds, brother Bob Howard, and several other relatives listened as Roger was praised for his work with the Borough. George Featherman, recreation president, made a few remarks and introduced Mayor Dick Gassmann who spoke about his long relationship working with Roger. Gassman repeated his proclamation of Apr. 3, 2008, naming that date as Roger Howard Day in the Borough of Matamoras. Other speakers were Councilman Bob Stevens, who chaired the Street Department; former Fire Chief Scott Gillette, who worked with Roger as a member of the Matamoras Fire Department; and Recreation Committee member Nancy Vocci, who offered a closing prayer. A granite marker was provided by Kevin Stroyan, Milford Funeral Director, who graduated from Delaware Valley High School with Roger. The marker is located on 7th Street, as you drive into Airport Park, by a tree planted in his memory.
