Club hosts ladies member/guest event - Golfers fly the colors for the day

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. The Port Jervis County Club was an array of red, white and blue on July 26 for the Ladies Member/Guest “Olympic” Golf Tournament. Kathleen Joyce, president of country club ladies’ league and event coordinator welcomed thirty six members and guests to the Best Ball event. Greeters at the registration tables were Annette Myers, Debbie Guida, Diane Spencer, Paula Jones, and Arleen Strecker. Set-up helpers were Carol Lopez and Terry Zeterberg. Homemade baked goodies was provided at the “Grab and Go Breakfast” including ham and cheese on English Muffin, blueberry muffins, sour cream coffee cake. Also served was juice, tea and coffee. Hats off to the “Pillsbury” bakers of these wonderful goodies, Bobbie Leonardo, Kathleen Joyce, Debbie Guida, Marianne Malhame and Sandy Roy. A gift given to all ladies was an insulated cup which was put to good use to carry a hot or cold drink to their carts along with a bag full of the baked goodies. Kathleen provided a CD with music including the Olympic theme and Chariots of Fire theme to help them get into the competitive spirit. Two special volunteers, Greg Mackaronis and Neil Joyce helped the ladies with placing their golf bags onto the carts. Ralph Montoya, their Pro, started them off and provided written reminders on the rulings for several problem holes, like the 5th. Along with the “Olympic” dress of red, white and blue, golf carts were decorated, Joyce Helms and Lorraine Gregory had outstanding decorations. Joyce had pinwheel flags that swirled in the breeze along with drapes of red, white and blue on her cart’s sides. Lorraine displayed American flags on the front of the cart with an Olympic flag alongside the golf bags. On completion of the 18-hole round the golfers were welcomed in the attractively decorated Oak Tree Inn for lunch. Bobbie Leonardo and her daughter Ann Mazzara of the Riverside Scrapbook Company along with Bobbie’s two grandchildren, Josef and Alexandra, helped to prepare the dining room with an Olympic flair emphazing a backdrop of Olympic rings and fantastic red, white and blue decorations. A line of international flags of the nations of the Olympics was hung across the ceiling and Lorraine Gregory displayed her Olympic flag. Following a delicious lunch prepared and served by the Oak Tree Inn staff, President Kathleen Joyce recognized the events volunteers. She introduced five Members Emeriti involved in the event, Joan Wortman and Phyllis Cordova who were in their usual places under the tree manning the snack tables at the turn and Lucille Crellin, Camille Lo’Re, and Stevie Solomon playing as guests. Kathleen announced the tournament winners and Carol Lopez, gift and prize chairperson presented the awards.
