DV student wins at University of Scranton physics contest

Scranton Ninety-three high school students from Carbondale Area, Delaware Valley, Forest City, Honesdale, Pocono Mountain East, Scranton, Wallenpaupack and Wyoming Area put their knowledge of physics and engineering to the test at The University of Scranton’s annual Kane Competition. The students competed both individually and in teams of six to seven students at the competition, which was held in April at the Jesuit university. Events included a Jeopardy-style quiz and several hands-on challenges. In the individual competition Evan Fox from Delaware Valley High School won first place. Michael Dorbad and Daniel Bott, both from Wyoming Area, came in second and third respectively. In the team competition, the first place trophy went to Wyoming Area (team one). Their team two took second. Team one from Scranton finished third in the team competition. The annual Kane Competition is supported by the Joseph Kane Estate, The University of Scranton Financial Aid Office, The University of Scranton Physics and Electrical Engineering Department and students in the university’s physics/electrical engineering program. The purpose of the competition is to encourage more students to pursue study in the lucrative fields of physics and engineering.
