Kiwanis provides GAIT scholarship

MILFORD The Kiwanis Club of Delaware Valley was proud to present a check to Martha Dubenski as a scholarship for a 7 week session at G.A.I.T. (Genuine Alternative in Therapy) for Myrna Lovreta. Myrna is an adult rider with Multiple Sclerosis who was funded through the Multiple Sclerosis Society for two sessions at GAIT. She saw marked improvement with the riding and she also goes to her lesson early enough to groom her horse before riding. These physically-involved activities have strengthened her torso and leg muscles, allowed more flexibility through her hip flexors, and improved her balance. When her funding ran out in March she was very disappointed that she couldn’t continue. So Martha Dubenski, owner of G.A.I.T., told Myrna that she would find funding for her to continue. Myrna was ever so grateful. That is when Martha approached a member of the Delaware Valley Kiwanis Club for help in funding a session for Myrna. The Kiwanis club quickly agreed to fund one 7 weeks session. Myrna has continued her lessons and her improvements and continues to ride her way to equilibrium and vigor. G.A.I.T. is an acronym for Genuine Alternative In Therapy and it is a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs resulting in a more independent life in society. For more information on G.A.I.T., please call 570-409-1140.
